Hermes Bag
Hermes leather bag. Brand new...well maybe it was carried once! This picture definitely does not do the bag justice, I can't even really describe the shade of green, but it's quite lovely!

Proenza Schouler Bustier/Boston Fashion

Who would have thought that there are such fashionable ladies living and shopping in Boston?! We don't just wear Ralph Lauren and J Crew! Sometimes we wear Proenza, maybe even a bit of Lanvin or Prada! I know that these women DO exist (albeit in small numbers), but some of them are consignors and consignment shoppers. If you would like to join us in our quest to make the city more stylish, come visit The Closet. We will help you escape the lure of Lilly Pulitzer prints (although some are quite sweet) and get you a look of your own this summer (or at least help you clean out your closet!)

Best of The Closet Boston

Moschino is one of those labels that I have a love/hate relationship with. In the early days of my fashion education (in the fashionless state of Maine), anything "Made in Italy" was ok with me, but as the years passed, I began to develop an allergy to the loud and in your face labels (Versace, Escada, etc) that has crept their way onto the racks. However, as the seasons passed and my tastes matured, I developed an appreciation for the brands that paved the way for a manner of dressing that is both playful and stylish. This jacket demonstrates how Moschino has stayed true to its roots (classic with a twist) while remaining modern and cheeky (inspired by Chanel much?!) Enjoy!

Just in: Tory Burch "Reva" Flat
These incredibly comfortable ballerina flats by Tory Burch don't usually make it onto the floor (last week an orange/gold pair was snatched right off the waiting-to-be-tagged pile!) So If you have a little foot (6 1/2) and need a silver pair for the summer, come see us at The Closet!
***I am really wishing I took a picture of our little neighbor next door who was flaunting the kids version last week...SO cute!

Oscar de la Renta Tweed Dress
Stunning Oscar De la Renta black and white tweed dress, size 4. This dress has just enough structure to provide a tailored and flattering fit, but it isn't too constricting to wear on a warm day. Thank you Mr. de la Renta! This is just the kind of treasure The Closet is known for, and I can't imagine it will be here for long. You just never know what you might find upon wandering into Boston's best consignment shop!

Consignment Finds: Judith Leiber
The most elegant of all evening bags are those by Judith Leiber, who started her company in New York in 1963, and still remains relevant today. The designs range from simple to over the top (you may recall the crystal-encrusted Swan minauderie Carrie received from Big in SATC). Either way, fashionistas alike can appreciate the careful craftsmanship and vintage flair they display, and of course we are grateful to know that the perfect clutch does indeed exist. In the words of Ms. Leiber herself, "Please. Don't thank me. Buy." My favorites are the classic bags seen below...

Hooray for Maine
Here is a neat piece from the latest NYT Magazine about Alex Carleton's favorite places in Maine I love that he mentions Wiscasset and all it's picture perfect antique shops. If you have never driven all the way up Route 1, you must do it this summer! Also, The Closet gets a lot of Rogues Gallery.

Big Kiss
All That Glitters
We are big fans of Rozae Nichols at The Closet. I once owned a dress of hers, but I consigned it! What was I thinking?! We also had her pebble print dress from Spring 2007, still at Barneys, but it sold the same day it came in! The dress shown here is definitely one of my favorites. The inside layer is gold and creates this really gorgeous shimmer effect. The little black ribbon with silver detail on the side is a nice touch. This is a really beautiful dress.

Straight from The Runway
A True Consignment Shop

There always seems to be a bit of confusion surrounding the characteristics of a true consignment shop. Please consider that The Closet is the most authentic shop in Boston, mainly because we don't purchase ANY of our merchandise outright and have only one of everything. This is the defining factor of a resale shop, because really, picking up leftovers from a boutique (who couldn't sell them in the first place) is just not the same as hunting for a unique garment, that has already been chosen for you by another talented fashionista.
We are really not a thrift shop either, which is important to understand. Although we do have a handy markdown system, the majority of items we carry are more pricey, high end designer brands that hold there value very well, as they are rarely marked down at the original point of sale.
Since we are consignment, all of our sales are split 50/50 with the consignor. Therefore, we price items to sell, while attempting to garner the consignor a fair share. If you ever have any questions about consigning or shopping, please give us a call at 617.536.1919.

Ann Demeulemeester Boots
Considering that the wardrobes choices reflected in the majority of even the most fashion conscious Bostonian's closet are comprised of a bland assortment of classic and preppy styles, it may come as a surprise that The Closet is consistently stocked with a pretty amazing selection of avant-garde European designers, Some of our more mainstream favorites include Yohji Yamamoto, Comme de Garcones, Jean Paul Gaulter, and of course Ann Demeulemeester, whose boots have a cult-like following.
