Little Black Bag

Dreams really do come true! Just last week I was imagining this EXACT bag, and sure enough, it appears in the store, teasing me and my bank account to no end! I had thought to myself, wouldn't it be nice to have a Chanel bag that is small, but not too small; how about one that is black, soft leather, caviar or quilted, who cares! Oh, and the delicate gold  chain strap, that is just a must...come snatch her up before I do!

Chanel Window

Here is a picture I took on Monday of the Chanel window on Newbury Street...Does this lovely clutch look at all familiar? It should! We had it in red just last week! It has since sold, but I just wanted everyone to know how on top of things we are here at The Closet!

The Closet in Elle Magazine

It isn't often that The Closet gets a mention in the media, let alone in one of the most major fashion publications around, but here we are! (Thanks to Noe for letting us know!) It is nice to be included in a piece about such stylish destinations as the ICA and Bodega! As you all know, The Closet itself is reason enough to take a trip up to Boston, and enjoy a little culture as well.

Spring is here!

The Closet is now accepting spring items for consignment. We look for things that are not more than 1 or 2 years old and in excellent condition. High end brands are preferred, as is an appointment, so if you have any questions, please get in touch. You can give us a call at 617.536.1919 to set up a time to come in, or just stop by and say hi!

The only place I really shop on Newbury Street is The Closet, but every now and then I find myself wandering down to Stel's to see what they've got...and I have to say, the selection is always soooo tempting. I began to notice they were stocking Rogan this past fall...and I'm happy to see they will be carrying a full line come spring. The other night they had a party to celebrate, and the designer, Rogan Gregory was there, along with his ping pong table. It was fun to see some old friends of The Closet and check out the collection. Rogan himself is a big fan of consignment, no surprise there (and it looks like he loves yellow this season too!). If you're lucky and have a good eye, you may come across some pieces from time to time at The Closet as well. Images courtesy of

Can anyone guess what my favorite issue of The New Yorker is?! The Style issue of course, I look forward to it every spring...a favorite piece this year was the profile of Isabel and Ruben Toledo, they are so talented and so in love! I was sad to read about the end of her tenure at Anne Klein. On a rather selfish note, I was a bit upset to be reminded of the day a few months ago when one of her extraordinarily lovely cocoon dress' arrived in the store...I kept picking it up and turning it around, trying to figure out just how she had constructed it and how it would look...and then out it went...only to be snatched up the very next day, when I hadn't even had the chance to try it on! Oh well, all I can hope for is that it is being worn and enjoyed.

I also had fun reading the piece on Rick Owens, what an interesting man, and not nearly as strange as I had imagined. We receive quite a bit of Rick Owens here at The Closet, I think his customers love his work so much that they are compelled to stock up every season on his slinky jersey knits. At some point they need to make room for more, so that's where we come in. Just see below!...

Here is a nice shot of the current men's window that Rob created...the piece de resistance is obviously the authentic Burberry skateboard...luckily the design team took it easy on the signature plaid, however they did manage to slap a nice large logo on the underside. The trucks are really good too, or so we hear since none of us have dared to test it out.

I really loved this article about consignment shops in the latest issue of W magazine:

What a Pretty Window

Think Spring!

I know it was pretty freezing today, but the sun was shining and so was our window. Just take a look at Lauren's lovely woman's display...yellow seems to be one of the colors this season (particularly in the form of a bright & buttery Bottega Veneta handbag it has since sold or golden Ella Moss top). Sure, it's a bit loud, but with an outfit as perfect as this, how can you resist!

Also be sure to notice the inflatable (yes, you can blow it up) vintage white Ferragamo mini tote, the perfect accessory for a day at the beach...we've also had it in black! I know that summer isn't exactly around the corner, but maybe buying this bag will make it come sooner!

Welcome to The Closet Inc.'s first blog!

This year The Closet celebrates 30 years on Newbury Street...that is a long time for a little store like us! Not much has changed in the past three decades, except our inventory of course (which changes everyday) but we thought it would be fun to share with you some of the things that make The Closet such a special place.

From the Broadway music every Saturday morning to the nonexistent hours on the door, you must have realized by now that The Closet is one of a kind.

So we invite you, whether you are a shopper, consignor, or just plain curious, to take a look never know what you might find!

Thank you,

Your Friends at The Closet Inc.
